Education and Professional Background

Dr Srdjan V. Belosevic was born on November 24th, 1967 in Belgrade. He graduated at the Aeronautical Department, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade, on January 25th, 1993, while on 02.09.1996. he got his M.Sc. degree at the faculty, where he was also working as a researcher. Since September 1993 he was engaged as a research-scholarship holder of the Republic of Serbia Ministry for Science and Technology, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Since April 1997, he has been working in Laboratory for Thermal Engineering and Energy, Institute of Nuclear Sciences Vinca, within the Ministry projects. On November 5th 2003, he got his Ph.D. degree, with the thesis entitled "A contribution to the modeling of processes in a pulverized coal-fired boiler furnace", at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade.

Research Interests

His research cover various fields, such as: mathematical modeling of two-phase turbulent flows with heat and mass transfer and chemical reactions, development of 3D computer codes applied in thermal energy for clean and efficient utilization of pulverized coal, turbulence, modeling of plasma-chemical preparation of pulverized coal, development and investigation of energy efficient thermo-technical devices with reduced emission of pollution, experimental investigation of coal and biomass combustion, problems in renewable energy sources, combustion in fluidized bed, aerodynamics.

During his work in the field of development of models and computer codes for simulation of processes in 3D geometries of pulverized coal utility boiler furnaces, he initiated the cooperation with Electric Power Industry of Serbia and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Belgrade, with the purpose of application of these complex numerical models in resolving operation problems in furnaces of domestic power plants.

From different areas of research, he has published more than 70 scientific papers and technical solutions (co-author of one Serbian patent in the field of biomass conversion), including 11 papers in leading international journals, with more than 80 hetero-citations.

Leading of Scientific Projects and Industrial Studies

Projects supported by the Republic of Serbia Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development:

During 2004-2005, “Development of solid fuel thermo-accumulating furnace: basic concept, high-efficiency concept with catalyst and concept with water heating” - National program of energy efficiency.

During 2009-2011, “Development and application of models and softwares for simulaton of processes in pulverized coal-fired utility boiler furnaces for the purpose of increasing energy efficiency and reducing emission of pollution”.

Since 2011, “Increase in energy and ecology efficiency of processes in pulverized coal-fired furnace and optimization of utility steam boiler air preheater by using in-house developed software tools”.

Studies supported by the Electric Power Industry of Serbia:

During 2006-2009, “Mathematical models and software tools for simulation of flow and thermal processes within the equipment of utility boiler units, for the purpose of working regimes diagnostics and prediction of operating situations”, subproject: “Mathematical model of processes in pulverized coal-fired boiler furnace“.

During 2010–2011, “Possibility of implementation of primary measures for NOx emission reduction from pulverized lignite-fired utility boilers”.

International Cooperation

He was also involved in international scientific cooperation within the project: "Advanced Decentralization Energy Generation Systems in Western Balkan" (ADEG PROJECT, INCO-CT-2011-509187, European Community FP6 program, 2004-2007) related to renewable energy sources and BIOM-ADRIA PROJECT: “The use of biomasses as a primary source of energy in the Adriatic Basin countries” (2007-2008).

He initialized the cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering-Skopje”, University “Sts. Cyril and Methodius”, Skopje, FYR Macedonia, within the project “Investigation and optimization of thermal processes in energy facilities and plants, by means of computational thermal analysis“ (2005-2008).

Reviewing and Editing

He acts as a reviewer in several scientific journals (Energy–The International Journal, Energy & Fuels, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, International Journal of Multiphase Flow, International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, Fuel Processing Technology, International Journal of Thermal Sciences, Progress in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Engineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, Journal of Zhejiang University-Science A, The Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, Thermal Science).

He is the Editorial Board member of the scientific journal The Open Thermodynamics Journal (Bentham Science Publishers) and the Guest Editor for the Hot Topic/Special Issue (Vol. 4/2010): Numerical analysis of heat and mass transfer in energy conversion systems.


In 2008 he was awarded the Annual Award of the Institute of Nuclear Sciences Vinca for applied research.
